by Asha Carroll

Written outside NEC coursework

’57 CHEVY

Margaret

Margarine

Listerine

Evergreen

Pristine beauty queen

Wrapped in a ribbon

She waits

CORPORATE ENVY

Cheekbones held

For posterity

Starched collars and reproductions

Cardboard cut-out sisters and brothers

March among the

Cocktail-induced clarity

Of the greater avenue

FIFTEEN

She paints herself in lipstick

A blossom for the thirsty hummingbird

Chariot to better days
